Dell creating a site to attract women to their computers.

If you can’t make them good, make them look pretty…

Dell has pretty much every kind of PC you can think of, from the craptacular, to the so-so, and a few, very few systems that I would actually enjoy owning.

Now they have a site that markets “fashionable” computers to women, the site is called Della, which makes me thing of a fat middle aged bar hopping woman that has a cigarette hanging out of her mouth, but to each her own.

This makes me think of software being made “more intuitive”, we’ve been hearing that for 20 years now and chances are that if a person has avoided a computer for the first 60 years of their life, they aren’t going to suddenly want to start using one just because you’ve dumbed down the latest office suite and made long time users *cough* spend 15 minutes looking for the button that saves a document.

Will this scheme work? Who knows? But I think that if they’re aiming for a woman who buys a computer because it’s pink and not for the specifications, then they are greatly stereotyping women and deserve to crash and burn.

Well, they may have cornered the market of Peg Bundy. :)
